Before you arrive

All new students receive access to our free Welcome to Australia Course, designed to help you feel confident about living and studying in Australia. You’ll learn about:

What to expect in your first weeks at BROWNS

This course can be completed before you travel so you arrive feeling prepared and relaxed.

From the moment you arrive in Australia, you’re supported. Support includes:

First Week

Your first week is designed to help you feel confident and comfortable. Orientation commences at 9am.
You’ll take part in:

English placement test
Campus tour
Important academic and student support information
City tour including where to set up a bank account, Australian phone number and public transport card

Once classes begin, your BROWNS experience really comes to life. You’ll develop your English skills while enjoying an active student lifestyle, new friendships and ongoing support. You can look forward to:

Graduation Day

Over 35,000 students have graduated from BROWNS English Language School. Graduation Day is an informal yet meaningful farewell, organised by your class and teacher. You’ll receive your BROWNS Graduation Certificate, celebrate with friends, take photos together, and some students even sign an Australian flag as a memorable souvenir to take home.

Sample schedule for your first day at BROWNS*

Time	Activity
9:00am	Arrival and check-in – Arrive with your passport and check in at reception – Your student ID photo will be taken
9:00-11:00am	First day placement testing All students complete a placement test on their first day. This helps us place you in the correct class for your English level. – Tests listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, speaking and writing – Takes approximately 1.5–2 hours – Includes a speaking test and short interview with a member of our Academic Management Team – A great opportunity to share your study goals and reasons for learning English
11:00am	Academic Overview (Academic Management Team) – School rules and expectations – How BROWNS classes work (CORE classes and Active8) – How to get the most out of the Accelerate program using your BROWNS Passport – Student visa requirements, including attendance and progress – Academic counselling and study support – Study pathway options
11:15am	Student Services Overview – Accommodation information (homestay, student apartments and student houses) – Collection of student ID cards – Public transport guidance – Activities calendar and social programs – Jobs Club support – Travel advice and beach safety information
11:30am	Campus & Local Area Tour Tour of classrooms and campus facilities – Meet the Student Services team and learn how to contact them – Emergency procedures, exits and assembly points – Guided walk around the local area, including: Public transport options (bus and train) Banks and how to open an account Mobile/phone providers Doctors, chemists and libraries Nearby shops, cafés and eating options
12:10-1:10pm	Afternoon Options – Attend an optional pronunciation class, or – Enjoy some free time and explore the city
1:10pm	Orientation finishes. Students can check myBROWNS to view their class timetable.
Following day	First day of class – Students can collect their BROWNS lanyard and textbook from the front desk
