What is Active8?
Active8 focuses on the eight English skills and systems that matter most for progress
BROWNS Active8 is our unique learning system, available exclusively to students studying Intensive General English.
Active8 is designed to ensure every student is learning at the right level, in every skill.
Each day is structured so you benefit from both consistency and personalised learning:
- CORE class (first two hours) – based on your overall English level
- Active8 classes (third and fourth hours) – based on your level in each individual skill or system
Instead of being placed into one single level for all areas of English, Active8 allows you to study different skills at different levels, depending on your ability. This ensures classes are never too easy or too difficult — helping you progress faster and with more confidence.

An additional one hour each day is built into the timetable for Accelerate and Homework Review, giving students extra time to focus on their individual learning needs.

Intensive General English
Our Intensive General English course supports students at all levels to improve their English with clear learning goals. With daily classes, personalised feedback, and access to Active8 and Accelerate, you’ll build confidence and real-world communication skills faster.
BROWNS Accelerate
BROWNS Accelerate is a free, optional study hour available to all students, designed to help you improve your English faster by focusing on the areas you need most. With five additional hours each week, Accelerate provides guided independent study with a supervising teacher on hand to support learning, answer questions, and help you get the most out of your classroom lessons.
BROWNS Guarantee
Our IELTS Guarantee gives eligible students the confidence that they can reach their target IELTS score with BROWNS. If not, BROWNS guarantees a free IELTS Preparation course (same number of weeks as original booking).
